 Shout about it

Sometimes I like something so much I just have to shout about it. Here seems like an apt place to erect a soapbox.

I love my music and I'm always interested in applications relating to it, have most of the usual stock like rhythm box - vlc - moovidia what have you but I've been a long time user of xbmc and it is an excellent media centre - I recommend checking out the latest update rocks.

Installing XBMC Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic or higher

If you are using Ubuntu 9.10 or higher, you have the option of a more streamlined install. Load the terminal window and issue the following (The $ is a standard substitute for your terminal prompt):

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install xbmc
$ sudo apt-get update

You do not need to add the XBMC Repo nor the PPA Keys. XBMC is already installed.

Today is really nice day. Although there is still snow here the sun is shining and the atmosphere is really beautiful. I think it's time to turn off the computer and go outside - to fresh my mind.

Does anybody have some experience of playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on linux? What do we need to play it on Ubuntu for example?

wine is perfect. some games work nicely but sometimes i can see some graphical errors. I also heard about bordeaux to be better than wine with games. But I have no experience with it.

bordeaux? ...just looked that up.
another commercial version of wine! fun. now i know of 3: crossover, cedega, and bordeaux.
well, if you don't mind paying, i guess you could look at the support for those games in any of the above programs.

I just googled around and found some articles that steam client is going to be released under linux. And also the Source Engine is going to be available on linux. Supporting games are these:

* Unreal Tournament 2004
* World of Goo
* Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
* Doom 3
* Postal III
* Half-Life 2
* Counter-Strike: Source
* Team Fortress 2
* Portal
* Portal 2
* Left 4 Dead
* Left 4 Dead 2

I hope that next games arrive soon. CoD Modern Warfare 2 included.

thx Id Software we have Doom 3, Quake 3, Quake 4, Return To Castle Wolfenstein (RTCW) and RTCW Enemy Territory for linux. Moreover there is Americas Army for linux too I think.

And Darwinia, Uplink and Defcon. Nice games from Introversion.

I suggest also Penumbra. Older game but still very good.

I tried Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary. Sometimes it shows a white square in 3 dimensional world. But I tried it time ago. Maybe recently the Wine is enough improved that Tomb Raider will be displayed with no errors. :)

I tried Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary on Wine (on Ubuntu 10-04). Legend displays gnome panels in game but the game itself is without displaying errors.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is completely without errors.

So you can play those games if you like on Linux.
