Did anybody try to install the kde4 packages in Lenny alongside an existing kde3 on Etch...?

The only way to run both KDE3 and KDE4 is to dual boot. In other words, set up your computer so that one Debian installation starts KDE3 and the other starts KDE4.

And what about kdesvn-build? I played around with it today with very little luck (qt-copy would build, but kdesupport would fall apart very fast).
Is it because it's Sunday? I noticed a few weeks ago that lots of commits tend to come in on Sunday...

Today there were already about 100 updated files in less than 24 hours...

I've been using kdesvn-build for more
than a month, on lenny/sid.

I don't use the kdesupport and qt-copy
modules, I just had to turn to
unstable once, to get a newer strigi
and soprano.

Only problem is it needs 5-7 spare
Gb's and the first time takes forever.
Sometimes also, a module might fail to
build, but that's always temporary.

Otherwise it's sweet to be
on the edge, with so little
effort ;) .

How come no one uses the doggone .ktheme files? I can't get any of the good stuff to work on Debian because I don't know where the files are supposed to go.

Kool, that is very helpful. :-) Does it cover all the bases though? I mean ALL the files go in this dir somewhere? Is there some where I can find an explanation of where theme types of files, i.e. mouse cursors, wallpaper, etc. are placed in KDE?

Jep, there:
http://kde.org/documentation/
Take a look around the documentation is a fine thing and do not forget to look at the developer docs, 'cause there are many hints too

Greetings

The question:
---------------
how you create a service menu to allow you to right click on one or more files in Dolphin and create a new mail with the files as attachments

I find some in this blog:
http://www.grim.se/guide/sendto

This guide describes how you create a service menu to allow you to right click on one or more files in Dolphin and create a new mail with the files as attachments.

The first thing you need to do is use the command line tool kde4-config to determine where service menu definitions should be located. Type the following on a command line:

kde4-config --path services

On my SuSE 11.2 system I get the following output:

/home/gugrim/.kde4/share/kde4/services/:/usr/share/kde4/services/

The first path shows where your personal ServiceMenus directory should be located. Check if there already is such a directory there, if not create it.

Create a new file called sendto.desktop, in the ServiceMenus directory, with the following content:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Service
Actions=SendToMailRcp
Encoding=UTF-8
MimeType=application/octet-stream
X-KDE-ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin
X-KDE-Priority=TopLevel
X-KDE-Submenu=Send To

[Desktop Action SendToMailRcp]
Name=Mail Recipient...
Exec=kmail --attach %F
Icon=kmail
