Source Mage GNU/Linux

Distributions
Description:

Source Mage is a source-based GNU/Linux distribution based on a Sorcery metaphor of "casting" and "dispelling" programs, which we refer to as "spells".

This group provides space for communication between Source Mage GNU/Linux users & developers and also non SMGL users, developers too.

Our primary focus is discussion of topics related to KDE and SMGL. Off-topic is tolerated while it seems reasonable and is essentially sensible.

Group policy allows anyone to join in and post new messages, read what others discuss.

If spam/unwanted users (aka trolls) persist feel free to ask me to change policy to a more strict one.

No worries. I rarely but still regularly visit kde-*.org web-sites so I'll try and keep this Group going. It may be especially good for those running KDE and SMGL to have discussions or just a place to ask for help... well whatever it is you guys talk about :)

I've also received your e-mail messages concerning "musts" and "shoulds" of being a developer and I'll do what's required in the nearest future. I've got a little bit busy but I'll be definitely returning just soon and resuming my (quite modest) work on grimoire spells so don't you worry about that :)

Who said I was still running Kubuntu? Heheh!

Well, actually Kubuntu is still on my laptop. It's still my *binary* distro of choice (for now), and it's only on my laptop because:

1. I don't want the hassles of always compiling on such an annoying thing (read: heavy frying pan)

2. I'm still planning to do a bit of development for them, planning, but never accomplished. :)

Yay for Quoth!

You have it in your profile data :)

As for compiling sessions I should say that most of stuff compiles pretty fast unless you have a really old notebook. In my setup and choice of software the most time consuming compilation is surely compilation of KDE spells. X server spell follows it and the rest compiles just fast.

As for development thing this is surely THE argument and I don't think I should even try to argue it.

Anyhow I wasn't serious on that post and I think you got it too :)

I've used fluxbox forever, because I've always had old slow computers and I like it.

Now I have a better machine, and I want to play with KDE.

Thanks for making the group.

KDE project is awesome. There many so called l33t folks who despise it utterly for "windows-ish" looks and feels while if you spend a considerable time working with it and performing your daily routines you may just like me figure out that KDE is nothing like that at all. It's an unprecedented desktop environment that follows UNIX spirit and offers a comfortable graphical environment and also many great tools. It's highly customizable, stable and feature rich. You need a full-blown modern desktop with effects and you get it with KDE, you need a modest, low on resources DE and you get it with KDE too.

There are also many great ideas and technologies underlying the pretty looking surface that make KDE a really powerful and productive DE.

My opinion is surely biased and you should approach it with healthy skepticism :)
