Through Synaptic, you only need to choose one variant of PCLinuxOS, and then be able to install any desktop environment you want, once PCLinuxOS is installed on your hard drive.

 Well impressed!

I have struggled to find a window manager to fit my aging laptop. I was happy with enlightenment for a while, but felt that the hardware had a bit more to spare. but running Ubuntu on it made me think that gnome was too much to ask. Until I installed pclos gnome. Compared to the clunky and sometimes painfully slow gnome installation that Ubuntu provided, pclos FLIES! I cannot believe the difference. I don't know what they give it for breakfast, but I want some.

I have tried GNOME on various distributions, and found PCLinuxOS to perform the best. I have nothing against Ubuntu, Fedora, or OpenSuSE (in fact, I like those distributions equally well), it is just that I find PCLinuxOS to be the most trouble-free distribution to recommend for those just starting out with Linux, especially if you are coming from Windows.

Recently, I installed PCLinuxOS on a laptop that ran Windows 7, until a virus embedded itself into Windows 7. The client whose machine I fixed was very impressed with what PCLinuxOS did, and I was able to restore all of the client's data backed up to an external hard drive, which I also did from the PCLinuxOS liveCD!

 PCLOS Gnome ROCKS

From RedHat to Mandrake, Mandriva then Ubuntu. Playing with Puppy and Knoppix. None of 'em can't satisfies my needs.

Follow PCLOS from 2007, falls in love with Gnome 2008. Using 2010.07 now, everything works like a charm. Changing mixer setting in KDE is frustrating, PCLOS Gnome is here to stay.

I have been using Linux for one year now.
My main Distro is PCLINUXOS.
It seems very robust and complete to me.
I like that is a rolling release and find the community very friendly and helpful. I enjoy reading PCLinuxOS Magazine every month.
